Tiny House Build Begins! BIG UPDATE!

Hey folks! A lot has happened since our last post so hold onto your seats for this one!

First of all – On May 14th, 2016 we drove to Lexington, NC to pick up our brand new shiny 28″ trailer!! DAY ONE of our Little Bitty Tiny House Saga is finally here!! We could hardly believe it when we drove onto Kaufmann Trailer’s lot and saw it sitting there. It looked massive and scarily small at the same time haha! The friendly staff at Kaufmann hooked the trailer onto our truck and we excitedly started the (very bumpy) 3 hour drive back home.

The wait for the next weekend to roll around took FOREVER. We were just so excited to get started, and who can blame us! We decided that our first step was prepping the trailer aka putting some insulation underneath. We chose to insulate the bottom of the trailer and build directly on top of the bed instead of building a floor frame and insulating that. It saves at least 6 inches, so why not? Every inch counts when you’re talking about a tiny house!

We went with 2″ EPS Foam Boards, filling in the gaps around the sides with Spray Foam, topping that with 3/4″ XPS Foam Boards and finally a waterproof sealer. That adds up to an R-rating of 19. While Cody and I worked on that, Cody’s dad helped us to attach our six levelling jacks.

That’s where we’re at right now. A couple of days ago we also spent a few hours sitting with Cody’s dad working on a material list for the framing, siding and roofing – and if all goes well, we hope to get started on that next step this coming weekend! Eeeek!

The SECOND big news is that our living room is now going to be a – DRUM ROLL – BABY ROOOOM! Aaand the storage loft will now be our entertainment loft. Yep, Little Bitty Tiny House is now expecting a Little Bitty Tiny House Baby this December 😄

THIRDLY – we’ve messed around with the exterior look of our trailer. Originally we were hoping for a darker outside look, but because of our great deal on WHITE windows, we needed to do some adjusting to make everything look better together. Cody made this awesome mock-up of the idea we have in our heads:

Finally, we’re working hard on our first progress/step-by-step video which will include everything from picking up the trailer to having it fully insulated. We’ll add the link to the bottom of this post as soon as it’s ready. From there on out we’ll most likely post update videos every other week. So, be on the lookout for that!

Till next time!

Oh wow!! I’m so excited for you! I’m obsessed with tiny houses and want to do this someday and tow the thing all around the country. I stumbled across your blog a little while ago and just found it again on this tiny house post so I figured I’d leave a comment to say hi. I can’t wait to follow along to see how it goes! Nice to ‘meet’ you two. 🙂

Hey Christy! Ahh we are obsessed too! We’ve been dreaming about a tiny house for years and we still can’t believe we’re actually doing it! We’re gonna update a lot more often starting soon, because we’re building the frame and all the rest of the cool stuff next! Oh and nice to “meet” you too! 🙂
